Access Student Worksheets and Travel Journal

The Water Guardians program includes worksheets for each lesson and a Travel Journal for students to complete. They are all available in PDF format, which can be printed out as handouts, and as Google Documents which are compatible with Google Classroom.

Lessons

Introduction

The Water Guardians program will take your students on a journey down the Mississippi River and around the world as they learn about the global water crisis. Your students will be empowered to become water advocates and discover how their daily local actions can have a wide and far-reaching impact.

Lesson 1

Clean Water

The journey will begin with students learning the basic concepts of water resources and access to clean water while exploring the headwaters of the great Mississippi River.

On the River

As they travel down the Mississippi River, your class will learn about the communities that depend on this water. Sources of pollution will be investigated as well as pathways to advocate for positive change.

From the Gulf to the World

As the river journey arrives at the Gulf of Mexico, students will discover the global effects of local choices. Here is where students learn about the global water crisis and read stories about students from around the world who are affected.

Final Destination

Students will now be challenged and encouraged to think about what they can do to create positive change. Your class has the opportunity to choose a partner school in another part of the world and dig deeper to learn more about their region and culture.

Making an Impact

Time to take action! Students will celebrate their leadership skills as they work together to design and create a project that will raise funds for their chosen partner school. After the project has been completed, they will have the chance to reflect on outcomes and how they can continue their journey as a Water Guardian.
